Welcome to Apple Valley Fusion Softball
Fusion Softball strives to provide positive supervised recreational and competitive softball to meet the needs of girls within Apple Valley and the surrounding communities regardless of high school boundary.
Our mission is to promote a positive competitive attitude; instilling self-confidence and nurturing the principles of teamwork, character, respect (for both our teammates and opponents) and integrity in both victory and defeat. The emphasis is on developing the fundamentals of fastpitch softball knowledge and skill, teamwork, self-confidence, while having fun.
WHAT IS SOFTBALL?
Softball is a modified form of Baseball that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It features the basic fundamentals and similar rules to baseball but is played on a smaller field, uses a larger ball, and underarm pitching. Softball offers two different variations of the sport, Fastpitch and Slowpitch. Both fastpitch and slowpitch softball offer unique experiences and challenges, appealing to different player preferences and skill sets. The choice between the two often depends on the player’s comfort with the pitching style, desired pace of play, and personal enjoyment.
WHAT IS FASTPITCH SOFTBALL?
Fastpitch softball is a competitive form of softball and is what you see in high school and college competition. In fastpitch, the pitchers deliver the ball with a speedy windmill motion to the batter. This motion generates high speeds and creates opportunities for various types of spin leading to challenging pitches for the opposing batter to hit. Pitch speeds in fastpitch can range from 30-35 MPH at the younger ages to 60-70 MPH at more senior levels. Batters in fastpitch softball have less time to react to the pitches due to their speed and movement. Hitting in fast pitch requires quick reflexes and the ability to handle various pitch types effectively. Fast pitch games tend to have a faster pace due to the speed of the pitches and the rapid transitions between innings.
WHAT IS SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL?
Slowpitch softball is more common for recreational leagues, especially with older teams who are looking for a more leisurely pace of play. In slowpitch, pitchers deliver the ball underhand in an arc, often referred to as a “lob.” The ball’s trajectory is higher, allowing batters more time to see the pitch and adjust their swing. The pitching speed in slow pitch is much lower compared to fast pitch. The emphasis is on accuracy and placement rather than speed. Batters in slow pitch softball have more time to track the ball’s trajectory, making hitting generally easier. The focus is on timing and making solid contact. Slow pitch games are generally more relaxed, with a slower pace. The emphasis is on player interaction, teamwork, and enjoying the game.
